You have the hair and makeup, ears, wings or horns or not, and now you need the final touch the clothes and the cutie marks!
Clothes
There is no wrong or right way to make a pony costume, any quick Google search shows you the options are endless, my generally rule of thumb is – will people recognize me? Me and my friends picked ponies that we felt were like us in some (or many) ways. I figured what I would wear is what Twilight would wear, which is why I went with the skinny jeans, cardigan tank top combo – it is a personal style classic.
But if would like to do something similar, Old Navy has a great selection of bright colored skinny jeans and tank tops and the cardigan came from Nordstrom Rack. Thrift stores can be excellent places to pick up other pieces, for instance Fluttershy’s clothes were a white skirt and top dyed yellow.
Cutie Marks
There are a few ways to do this, I would recommend felt as you material – as it is cheap and doesn’t fray. You can use interfacing, but be wary felt can melt when heated. For fixing the felt to the clothing, if you don’t need to worry about having a little stretch in your fabric then glue can work well (This is what Fluttershy did). Mine was on some slightly stretchy jeans so I wanted to have a keep the give, thus I only stitched it on around the edges. You could try couching, embroidery etc… (if you are sewing, use of an embroidery hoop is a good idea!
