You’ve already listened to me gush about this movie, so let’s dive into the accessories for your very own space werewolf soldier outfit. There are three main accessories: gloves, holster, hair/make-up.
Holster
This was probably the most challenging for me, because I have never attempting cast and latex molds. The first step was to create two masters for the mold, one of the square section and one of the not quite triangle. I made these using sculpey (gold because I had it on hand), and though not quite as detailed or symmetrical they seemed to work, if you have budget, 3D printed masters would probably be the way to go.
Then I cast a silicon mould of each – we will ignore the failed mould making attempts and focus on the fact that in the end I got one that actually worked. I used spray oil as my mould release, which worked well for the releasing but did leave some bubbles on the mould so watch out for that. The silicon mold material was from TAP plastics.
For the cast I used the quick cast from TAP plastics, you have a few minutes to work with it. I added in some black color to make it easier to paint, though that probably wasn’t necessary. In totally I made 3 triangle sections and 8 square sections (one was extra thin to glue to the shirt).
I spray painted all of the sections black, they needed a couple of coats each. To assemble I super glued black twill tape to the back of them and then create loops to hang them from a belt that was under my shirt. For the final part of the holster I cut a section of black pleather and glued the twill tape to it, and added a buckle on the inner thigh. Instead of creating a gun and proper holster I created a small denim pouch that would hold my phone and cards. Not as accurate but I didn’t have time to create a gun (or the skill if I am honest with myself).
Gloves
The gloves were relatively simple, I used these air-soft fingerless gloves as a base, and added decorations with silver sharpie and acrylic paint.
For the vambrace section, this was essentially a t-shape of black EVA craft from with a slightly smaller t of brown pleather glued over the top. I added the decorative silver wire and then glued it to inside the glove.
Hair and Make-up
I used the woochie ear tips, and had spirit gum stuck to me forever, seriously there might still be some there. The teeth were the wereworlf set from scarecrow.
To create the brand I drew the design onto paper and slipped it inside a plastic sleeve. I then painted several layers of liquid latex to build up the dimensional aspect. I had a thin layer over the whole section and then thicker raised layers for the design. I painted this all with several layers of makeup and foundation before applying with spirit gum and blending.
The hair is basically a design choice, I debated about going with a more practical pony tail look or a shorter scruffier look. I settled on the Rei wig from animestuff store because it was the right sort of color, and having hair cover the ear helps blend the terrible job I did of adhering the prosthetics; I may still style it further for the next wearing.
Lastly the tattoo was a custom printed temporary tattoo. I used print at home paper, and failed a little bit at the actual application process (really make sure you get all the plastic film off before applying), and powdered it with setting powder to cut the shine. The designed was based on the amazing trace by Kaberett on tumblr, I added a few extra details.
