Asami Sato cosplay: Equalist Glove tutorial

The equalist glove was a nice touch to the costume, and added opportunities for fun photos! As I was making Asami’s season 4 outfit, I also chose to make her season 4 personalized equalist glove (it had the benefit of being slightly simpler than the original equalist gloves).

If you are looking to make your own this page should help you with some step by step suggestions.

  1. Construct the glove base. Mine was made by removing the cuff from the work glove, I then realized some of the fingers by taking them in at the seams, so it wasn’t ridiculously too big, just loose fitting. Next I added a cuff of the jersey. Then I inserted the pleather section, just a rectangle with a triangle of the jersey fabric at the seam (the seam is on the underside of the glove). Then I sewed strip to of the jersey around the cuff and lastly added the cuff of the glove back on at the base.
  2. Next was the gold satin cord to mimic the wires. There were glued in place with hot glue after marking their positions and lengths of cord while wearing them (with my hand in a fist). There is one string down each finger and thumb, one between the thumb and index finger and one on the other side of the palm.
  3. The black EVA foam was cut out and hot glued to the top of the hand, covering the ‘wire’ ends. Fingertips were made with wonderflex and painted black with spray paint, before being glued on with hot glue, covering the other ‘wire’ ends.
  4. The globe on the palm was made with the bottom half of an Easter egg with a small led switch light inside (unfortunately it was not very bright). The sphere was wrapped with eva foam painted gold, and then glued onto the palm with hot glue.
  5. The other decorations were sculpted with model magic and painted using the gold and brown acrylic. The tubes on the forearm were glued onto a small piece for EVA foam, and then super glued to the pleather. Additional silk cord was glued between the decorative sections.
