I decided to make Vice Admiral Holdo partially on a whim. I have never cosplayed a Star Wars character before, which I think has been in part because there just weren’t that many female characters for me to cosplay.

I’ve always considered making Leia, and I suppose I could gender bend one of the male characters, but for some reason there wasn’t the appeal. I enjoyed the Last Jedi, it gave us a whole host of new characters, and reminded me in many ways of the feel of a young adult novel.
In particular I loved Vice Admiral Holdo’s design, as a costumer I loved the choice to have her dressed strikingly feminine, something we often don’t see in this sort of movie or for women in her position, so cosplaying her outfit seemed like fun. Also is gave me an excuse to dye my hair purple.
